OtV: Pumpkin Progress 3

All five of my seeds have sprouted!  I also planted a second mound with five more seeds.

OtV: Pumpkin Progress 2

Not only has 2 more sprouts emerged, a fourth one was found growing better than the rest in the corner, under my water fountain.  Two of the four sprouts are not on the mound and seem to have washed down the mound while I watered them.  My first sprout has a third leaf yet seems to be wilting in the summer heat.  My second sprout has also gotten a third leaf.  I am so stoked!

OtV: Pumpkin Progress 1

I planted five pumpkin seeds in the mound and so far one is sprouting very well!  It's getting pretty tall.  It's been here for awhile but I just thought it was a weed and not a pumpkin.  So today I decided to look up what a sprouting pumpkin should look like and behold... it is a sprouting pumpkin!

Artwork!

In an effort to promote Steve Santiago's brilliant art as well as my book that it will be featured in, we discussed showing one of the current four interior illustrations finished.  This illustration is drawn after my poem, Witch Lord of the Hunt, and is the first of ten b&w interior illustrations that will appear in my debut poetry collection, Diary of a Sorceress by Hippocampus Press.  Witch Lord of the Hunt was originally published in Eternal Haunted Summer.

The Order of the Thinned Veil: Pumpkin Planting

So my super, awesome Halloween-obsessed boyfriend bought me the Candy Corn level membership from the mysterious Order of the Thinned Veil.  Here is what this order is all about.

"We are a society of like-minded individuals who choose to live our lives steeped in the legends, lore and customs of Halloween. What does that mean? Well, for us Halloween is anything but just a day in October, it is a lifestyle and a lens by which we view the world around us.

The Order of the Thinned Veil is a tiered style of membership for the year. There are three levels of membership and each has it’s own set of perks such as exclusive artwork, a newsletter, certificates, contests and invitations to special events!

Members will also have access to exclusive items available ONLY to current Order of the Thinned Veil members.

Additionally,  members will engage in the cermonial planting of their own pumpkins to eventually carve into Jack O’Lanterns with included seeds. This will be an OTV community event! (More details forthcoming!)

Options for membership are as follows and are a ONE TIME FEE. This is NOT a recurring monthly subscription. Once you sign up, you’re a member for the year!"

Here is the Candy Corn level package.

(I might have been a bit excited opening it....)

(Pumpkin seeds in the bag on the bottom left.)

The Order also hosts contests every month and so far there has been two.  Show off your membership pin and post a previous Halloween costume.

I didn't win either time but the contests are super fun!

The Order of the Thinned Veil has recently announced that now is the time to start planting those pumpkin seeds.  So today I embarked on that mission.

(The green witch presides over the mound to bless it.)

The Audient Void: A Journal of Weird Fiction and Dark Fantasy Issue 3 is Here!

My long awaited copy of The Audient Void: A Journal of Weird Fiction and Dark Fantasy Issue 3 has finally arrived and it is signed by the editor, Obadiah Baird, and David Barker!  Score!  My poem, A Sorceress's Final Vision, appears in this issue.

A Sorceress's Final Vision is the last poem in my poetry collection, Diary of a Sorceress.  The poem of the same name, which can be found in Skelos - The Journal of Weird Fiction and Dark Fantasy Issue 1, starts the collection right after the Prelude.  A reviewer said that this poem seemed to be wanting and that it felt like it wasn't finished.  That would be an accurate assumption and hopefully by reading the collection and coming to the last poem will have the desired satisfactory outcome.

Projects

With my debut poetry collection, Diary of a Sorceress, nearing its publication, I need to get cracking on other, new projects.  But which to focus on??

Poetry Collection 1-
This poetry collection contains roughly 50 poems that I wrote when I was young(er).  I'd say that they are more horror than straight fantasy.  They are compiled into sections and organized.  I just need to edit them (easier said than done, of course).

Poetry Collection 2-
This poetry collection is the next 'diary' and contains all new poems.  This one, I'd say, is darker than Diary of a Sorceress, and is more Gothic themed.  It currently has around 16 poems in it so far.

Novel-
I know most (probably all) of you know me as a poet but actually, it has always been my dream to be a novelist.  I have written two novels that are part of a fantasy series that I would like to eventually edit and get published.

Short Story Collection-
Yeah.... I should really start writing fiction.  I've written a total of 8 stories.  Half have been published.  Out of the published half, three can be read for free online.  Only one of the three I like.  Though I did just write a story I'm really proud of and hope to get that published.
