The Withering is Out!

The Withering is now officially out!  You can order your copy directly from Jackanapes Press, where you have different signature options, such as getting it signed by me or signed by me and John Shirley.  Jackanapes Press does have international shipping options.  You can also order it from Amazon and Amazon UK.  It is also now up on Goodreads.

If you preordered it or if you order it in December, you will receive a sampler pamphlet featuring 4 unpublished poems from my upcoming collection, Darkest Days and Haunted Ways.

I will have a limited supply of copies you can buy directly from me.  You have the options of getting my signature, a personalization, and/or a kiss in matching Withering green.  You will also receive my Beneath Her Spell: She-Devils of Renown pamphlet which features my 4 femme fatale poems Carathis, Ligeia, Mircalla, and Asenath.  I am just waiting on the pamphlets to arrive.

As of today, I have signed and personalized copies where appropriate, and they have been shipped off to John Shirley for him to sign.  If you did not order a signature from John, they have still been shipped together.  From there, they will return to the publisher to be shipped to your individual addresses.  Unfortunately, they will not arrive before Christmas but I hope they will get to you before the end of the year.

If you order a copy, please consider leaving a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads after you've read it.  Even a simple, "I enjoyed it" goes a long way.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Infernal Ink Magazine (Fall/Winter 2020)

The final issue of Infernal Ink Magazine is now out.  My poetry reprint, Lovely Lucifer, appears in this issue.  I first heard of Hydra M. Star and Infernal Ink Magazine years ago through this ezine called Horrotica.  Horrotica was run by Terry D. Scheerer and was one of the first places I got published.  Terry gave me a lot of feedback and helped me very early on with my poetry and fiction.  He has, unfortunately, left this world and I have dedicated The Withering to him, as a lot of those poems in there he helped me with and published.  So Infernal Ink Magazine was on my radar as a new place to submit but I don't think I actually started to submit there until a few years ago.  I'm sad to see it end but happy to have been in its pages.

Table of Contents

Updates

The Withering is still slated for an autumn release but there is no actual date for when it will be out.  It also currently cannot be pre-ordered even though it's up on the website.

While that is still in progress, I've been focusing my attention on filling up Diary of a Vampyress.  It currently has 64 poems and I've made some changes to the sections.  Instead of having two sections for Ghosts and Skeletons and Zombies and Ghouls, I've combined them into one section, Other Dead.  They didn't have that many poems in them and I don't think I'll write many zombie or ghoul poems to flesh the section out enough, so to speak.  It's shaping up nicely and I feel really good about it.  It still has a ways to go before it is finished and I can send it off somewhere.

Forthcoming Autumn 2020: The Withering

"...poetry from a night-blooming blossom... throbbing with incantatory power..."

--John Shirley, author of Cellars, Wetbones and A Song Called Youth

Last year held a major disappointment for me when Septemeber came and went without The Withering being released when it was scheduled to.  Now, a year later, I am excited to announce that my second poetry collection, The Withering, has found a new home with Jackanapes Press!  Jackanapes Press is a new press run by Dan Sauer, who is well known for his amazing artistic talent.  The Withering is forthcoming this autumn.

Here's a recap about The Withering.  It originally consisted of the 50 best poems from my preteen and teenage years.  I've added 5 more.  It features cover and interior art by Mutartis Boswell and an introduction by John Shirley.  I've added a notes page with fun facts about certain poems and a list of the poems written chronologically.  The four sections are broken down to Nature-Based Horror, Supernatural Horror, Psychological Horror, and Body Horror.

Midnight Under the Big Top: Madness, Murder, and Magic by Cemetery Dance Publications

I just received probably one of coolest books I have ever been in and that's Midnight Under the Big Top: Madness, Murder, and Magic by Cemetery Dance Publications.  Unfortunately, this edition is already sold out but I heard there will be another print run of this anthology at some point.  Cemetery Dance was a household name for me growing up as my dad had purchased the lifetime magazine subscription when it first came out.  He died a month before I could tell him I was invited to write for them in this anthology.  I wish I could show it to him.  It features my poem, Beneath the Fullest Moon.  I actually submitted a second poem that was accepted but for some reason, does not appear in it.  I have no idea why.  Check out this killer line-up!

Another Publisher Falls

It is with great sadness that I see Gehenna and Hinnom Books close their doors.  It showed great promise and churned out 2 beautifully published books and a few magazine issues, one of which I had the privilege of being a part of.  C. P. Dunphey was great to work with.  But it just takes one life crisis to throw everything out of whack and even worse when more just pile on until you are drowning.  Gehenna and Hinnom should be the last thing on his mind and I believe he made a good decision in closing it at this time.  Family and health should, of course, come first.  I wish him and his family the absolute best and hope to see Gehenna and Hinnom Books open its doors once more in the future.  Here is his closing announcement.

With that being said, The Withering was released of its contract and will not be published with Gehenna and Hinnom Books.  To be honest, with the lack of communication from the publisher for so long, I was afraid this would happen and sent off The Withering to another publisher months ago.  I still await their judgment.

Residents of Innsmouth

My copy of Residents of Innsmouth edited by Russell Smeaton has finally arrived from across the pond.  Residents of Innsmouth was a Kickstarter project created by Russell Smeaton to give life to the residents of H. P. Lovecraft's infamous town of Innsmouth.

Each art piece Russell has created represents a character and a writer creates and develops the character through a story in prose or poetry.  I have three characters with three respective poems, Her Hair is Sunlight, Her Hair is Moonlight, and For Charms, a Crown.

This book is far from a soggy breakfast, it's everything mom told you would rot your teeth out, something to cry about, have a few laughs, or maybe even ponder over the words and see the bigger picture in itself."
